OK so it's been an idea of mine for a while to incorporate many of the H.P. Lovecraft characters into the GW games and now I've got one about 90% done. The focus of this blog is the infamous King in Yellow. First a little history into the character.
The King in Yellow first appeared in the book “The King in Yellow” by Robert W. Chambers in 1895. The book featured 4 stories linked together by the play of "The King in Yellow" and the character Hastur. The play that the stories reference is known for being rather dull in the first act but the second and third acts of the play reveal universal truths that drive anyone who sees or reads it insane. H.P. Lovecraft eventually read the book and loved the idea and the ambiguity of Hastur and worked him into a couple of his stories and established him into the Cthulhu Mythos. Over the years many authors would tweak the idea and revealed the King in Yellow to be an avatar of Hastur, making him a much powerful figure in the stories.
Now that thats through let's look at the model. I used the Elrond figure from the LOTR line. I originally intended to use one of the Ringwraiths but I didn't really want to spend that much. I used some green stuff and added the mask and hood taking him from this,

to this.

Not too bad for my first time with GS. I painted it with Tausept Ochre, followed by Sunburst Yellow, a wash of Badab Black and a final highlight of Sunburst Yellow. The Badab Black turned out a little more powerful than I expected. Thankfully since they describe the King as being very tattered and not necessarily too neat looking so it works.
OK now the rules. As far as stats go I'm not too sure since I'm still getting my feet wet into Fantasy. My thoughts were high Leadership, so-so combat stats, average to high Movement and a low Armour save but high Ward save. Now powers and spells I've thought out.
Powers:
“Truth is my weapon”: CC attacks ignore armour saves.
The Pallid Mask: Causes Fear.
The Yellow Sign: Enemy units within 6” suffer a -1 to leadership.
Avatar of Hastur: Immune to Psychology
Spells:
Fear of the Unknown: Range: 12” Select an enemy unit within range. That unit takes a leadership test. If it passes nothing happens. If it fails reduce it's leadership by the amount it failed the test.
Universal Truth: Range: 12” Target unit must pass a leadership test or flee. Any attempt to regroup is at -1.
The Yellow Sign: Range: 12” Target unit takes a leadership test. If it passes nothing happens. If it fails cause 1 wound per point it failed the test.
Since the stories focused on people going insane I figured having a lot of effects that cause leadership tests with possibly disastrous effects. I'm not sure about Cast on values for the spells or a point value for the character. This is probably the most powerful and unbalanced character I've created. Any ideas you guys have would be helpful. Till next time.
